Frequently asked questions

  • What is Journey Health?

We are a family practice group that offers affordable, all-access, quality, personal healthcare using a direct primary care model.

  • What is direct primary care?

Direct primary care is a healthcare model focused on patient care. The provider-patient relationship is the foundation of direct primary care. We work with our patients to get the services and care they need, when they need it. We take on fewer patients to allow more time for you. This model does not accept insurance, freeing us from the mandates and requirements they ask. Labs and medications are offered at wholesale prices in an effort to reduce your cost.

  • Do I still need insurance?

Yes. We recommend that you carry major medical insurance and open a health savings account. You can even use your health savings account to pay your subscriptions to our service! Major medical insurance ensures coverage if you need hospitalization or referral to a specialist. We can refer you to an insurance specialist to assist you in choosing a plan that works for your budget and needs.

  • Does Journey Health accept insurance?

We chose not to accept insurance at Journey Health for several key reasons. First and foremost, we believe your healthcare is best managed by you and your provider, not dictated by insurance company executives. Insurance companies should not have a voice about the quality or cost of your healthcare. Nor should the arbitrary, intrusive interests of third-party payers dictate when and what services/medications you may need. Lastly, this clear fee-for-service model allows us to offer wholesale prices on laboratory tests and medications. Accepting insurance would come with contractual agreements that would prevent us from offering such pricing.

  • Can I use an HSA or FSA to pay for my subscription?

We recommend everyone check with their accountant since each person's situation is unique, however, we are confident that such savings accounts can be used in combination with our practice. We support our stance using the following IRS documents which clearly state that payments to physicians are a deductible expense: IRS Document 502

  • Is Direct Primary Care the same as Concierge Medicine?

Direct Primary Care is a type of concierge medicine. Journey Health does offer tailored care to each patient as well as unrivaled access to your provider. One area where Journey Health differs from an average concierge practice is cost. Our rates are far less expensive than your average concierge practice. We strive to keep cost and overhead low to provide real value to our patients.

  • Can I benefit from Journey Health even if I don't require frequent medical attention?

Absolutely! We believe everyone can benefit from high quality health care. Our focus is on wellness. We encourage our patients to use our services for preventative and routine health care needs, as well as when they are sick. We are devoted to keeping you in great health and are available for all your needs from the most minute health-related question to a life-changing diagnosis.

  • What if I need to be hospitalized?

Many times hospital stays can be avoided because we can arrange close follow-up and maintain continuity of care. In the event that you need to be hospitalized, we will be in constant contact with you and your hospitalist during your stay no matter what hospital you choose. Think of us as your biggest advocate. We will also be highly involved in discharge planning and insist on seeing you within 48 hours of being discharged...even if that means a home visit.

  • What if I need to see a specialist?

Part of providing superb care and unrivaled access means that we can prevent many specialty referrals. Your monthly fee also includes physician-to-physician consultation via teleconference to almost all specialties. That means you can get specialty care without necessarily seeing and paying for the visit to a specialist. In the event that you do need to see a specialist, we can refer you to a trusted, quality provider with whom we work closely.

  • How do I know if Journey Health is right for me?

Please schedule an unconditional, free visit with us to discuss your healthcare needs. That's the only reasonable way to begin what we trust will be a long, healthy relationship.

  • Will my health information be kept private?

Without question!!! We will never share, sell or provide any of your personal or healthcare information to anyone unless you direct us to do so. All of your information is double encrypted and stored on a secure database that can only be accessed by you and your provider.

  • Do you make housecalls?

We absolutely do when the need arises. House calls must be within a 10-mile radius of the clinics and must be scheduled well in advance to allow for travel. There is an additional fee associated with house calls.

  • Do you offer telemedicine services?

Yes, we do. We live in the 21st century, after all. Need us to look at your child's rash while you are on the beach in Florida? We have secure video conferencing services to get the diagnosis and treatment so you can get back to your life.

  • How can you save me money on prescriptions?

We buy wholesale medications and dispense them from the office, saving you time and money over most retail pharmacies.

  • How can you save me money on labs and tests?

We work hard to negotiate the best deals for you. We have contracts with top local and national laboratories and imaging services, offering the lowest prices around.
